Beyond innovation: Welcome Home to legacy and heritage
The story of Mercedes-Benz in Malaysia is one that stretches back more than a century, long before showrooms, production plants, or regional headquarters. It is a story of firsts, of milestones earned, and of a relationship between a global brand and a nation that has only grown deeper with time.
It began in the early 20th century, when the Sultan of Johor was believed to be one of the first in Malaya to own a Mercedes-Benz - a moment that quietly set the tone for everything that followed. From those early roads to today, Malaysia's journey with Mercedes-Benz has been one of continuous growth, shared vision, and mutual pride. Official sales had begun in 1951 through Cycle & Carriage. From there, several key milestones followed which helped shape that legacy. By 1968, locally assembled passenger cars marked the beginning of domestic production, and in 1983, Malaysia became the first country in the world after Germany to assemble the S-Class - the Mercedes-Benz 380 SE, reflecting the nation’s growing role in the brand’s global legacy. This momentum continued with the launch of DaimlerChrysler Malaysia in 2003 which later evolved into Mercedes-Benz Malaysia in 2008.
The establishment of the Pekan production plant in 2004 further reinforced Malaysia’s strategic role in the region. In 2023, two major milestones underscored this progress: the rollout of the first locally assembled Mercedes-Benz EQ, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4MATIC, and the production of the 100,000th Mercedes-Benz passenger car at the Pekan facility.
In more recent years, the journey has evolved beyond assembly into innovation and regional leadership. Through the introduction of Mercedes-Benz Parts Logistics Asia-Pacific (MBPLAP) and Mercedes-Benz Tech Malaysia, Malaysia now plays an increasingly integral role in the brand’s regional logistics and digital infrastructure. Together, they represent a growing footprint that speaks of the brand’s long-term strategic commitment to the country, its capabilities, and its people.
Today, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia continues to strengthen its presence through close collaboration with its six retail partners, delivering exceptional experiences to customers across the country.
