Mercedes-Benz Wins Two Car

The Year 2006 Awards

The recent release of the New Straits Times, Cars, Bikes & Trucks’s Car of the Year 2006 Awards results saw the Mercedes-Benz S 350L and Mercedes-Benz ML 350 walked away as the overall winner of the Premium Executive/Luxury Saloon and Premium SUV categories, respectively.

Launched end of last year, the Mercedes-Benz S 350L introduced technical innovations, making the flagship Mercedes-Benz model an example for others to follow.

Replacing a model series which was the world number one in the luxury class worldwide, the latest Mercedes-Benz S 350L pioneered safety features and exemplary comfort, both outstanding attributes of the long awaited vehicle. The latest Mercedes-Benz S 350L also sets standards with its agile handling, while offering an even more effortless driving experience thanks to its new and more powerful engines.

The latest Mercedes-Benz S 350L also proudly achieved top scores for its PRO-SAFE® integrated safety philosophy, which confirms Mercedes-Benz’s position as a safety pioneer. With PRO-SAFE®, the vision of accident-free driving has moved a further step closer to fulfilment. The PRO-SAFE® integrated philosophy comprises four complementary fundamentals such as PERFORM-SAFE®, PRE-SAFE®, PASSIVE-SAFE®, and POST-SAFE®.

Since its debut worldwide, the Mercedes-Benz S 350L had effortlessly won awards such as the EuroCarBodyAWARD 2005, 2006’s Best Luxury Car from What Car? British motoring magazine, and Luxury Topauto 2006 from Stuttgart. The Mercedes-Benz S 350L also proved a runaway winner in the Luxury Class category, at the awards ceremony staged by “Bild am Sonntag”, Germany’s highest-circulation Sunday newspaper in Berlin last year.

Simultaneously, one of the brand’s latest additions to the family also bagged another award from the New Straits Times – Cars, Bikes & Trucks Car of the Year 2006 Awards in the Premium SUV segment. The winner of this category, the Mercedes-Benz ML 350, is a trendsetter among modern off-roaders with state-of-the-art technology such as a new V6 engine, the seven-speed automatic transmission 7G-TRONIC fitted as standard, and an even more effective four-wheel drive system 4-ETS and AIRMATIC air suspension.

The V6 petrol powered Mercedes-Benz ML 350 has 200 kW/272 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Newton metres. The unique seven-speed automatic transmission 7G-TRONIC is fitted as standard and intelligent shift management allows the transmission to make optimum use of the engine’s enviable reserves of power, while making a major contribution to fuel economy.

The Mercedes-Benz ML 350 also sets the pace for other off-roaders in terms of safety. Its occupant protection system is underpinned by a self-supporting body structure with large deformation zones in the front and rear ends, and a wealth of state-of-the-art technology from the luxury class as standard.

Created with its preceding model in 1997, the latest Mercedes-Benz ML 350 has won numerous international prizes and awards, thus underlining the qualities of the vehicle in the fields of design, functionality, driving pleasure, safety, and off-road performance. Among others, some of its podium wins include the Top Safety Pick 2007 by the prestigious US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the Golden Steering Wheel 2005 awards in the special ‘Off-roaders’ class.
