| In 1989, Mercedes-Benz started to hold a series of golf tournaments for the Mercedes Challenge Cup. These golf tournaments were for amateurs at a national level and organised in cooperation with the German Golfing Association (DGV). In 1991, the form and the name were altered and the first MercedesTrophy for customers and friends of the brand took place and since then, it has been organised at the company headquarters. Meanwhile, these series of tournaments have established itself as an event which is played on all continents. Worldwide, more than 53,000 golfers of both sexes take part in one of the MercedesTrophy tournaments, hoping to qualify for the world final in Stuttgart, Germany.
