 | This year, the Mercedes Car Group under the DaimlerChrysler Malaysia Sdn Bhd's umbrella showcased an outstanding range of vehicles from Mercedes-Benz passenger cars to smart models, at the Kuala Lumpur International Motorshow (KLIMS) 2006 in Putra World Trade Center. The highlights of the show were the much awaited B170 and the new E280 Avantgarde from Mercedes-Benz – the B-Class is known as the innovative Compact Sports Tourer, a fascinating symbiosis of a touring, family, and recreational vehicle, while the E-Class is equipped with a new V6 engine thus producing more output, higher torque and lower fuel consumption. The public also feasted their eyes on the other radically unique vehicles of the Mercedes Car Group – the smart fortwo, forfour, and roadster. During this year’s KLIMS, these five models shared the limelight with 11 other Mercedes-Benz models, namely the A 170, B 200 TURBO, C 230 Kompressor Avantgarde, E 200 Kompressor Sports Edition, S 350L SEL, ML 350, CLS 55 AMG ‘IWC Ingenieur’, SLR McLaren, Viano, Vito, Vito Grand, and Sprinter – all of which are advocates of the three-pointed star’s leadership in safety, technology, and comfort. The most exciting of the models on display was none other than the CLS 55 AMG ‘IWC Ingenieur’ – the car with a powerful AMG 5.5-litre supercharged V8 engine which boasts exclusive equipment details. This newly designed AMG instrument cluster is based on the new “Ingenieur” watch family from IWC and only 55 units of this unique four-door coupe is produced worldwide. In addition, the aura of the legendary SLR racing sports cars from the 1950s could also be felt at the Mercedes-Benz and smart booth as the public could get up-close and personal with their favourite adrenaline-pumped model, the SLR McLaren – a high-performance two-seater sports car, with its distinctive swing-wing doors and styling elements derived from the Formula 1 Silver Arrows. Another heart-stopper is the latest top-of-the-range Mercedes-Benz S-Class – a vehicle superlative in design and technology. Like its predecessor, this technological pacemaker is set to influence the automotive development of the future with its outstanding attributes such as its pioneering safety features and exemplary comfort. The Mercedes-Benz vans are also no stranger to these high standards of safety. Previewing at KLIMS is the Viano – known for its ingenious engineering, exceptional drive system and extremely smooth running characteristics. While DaimlerChrysler is all about mobility, one of its key goals is to make mobility safer. Like KLIMS’ ‘Road Safety’ theme this year, DaimlerChrysler Malaysia also invested in a multi-player network called Mokitown – a platform which is used to instil the values of road safety awareness and fairplay in young traffic participants. The program focuses on children and teenagers, the age groups that are at greater risk of road accidents and is a means to create awareness besides educating the young generation on road safety issues. KLIMS was not only to be the highlight-of-the-year for car enthusiasts, young visitors were also assured of having a blast at the Mokitown booth as well. Without a doubt, DaimlerChrysler Malaysia once again lived up to their leadership position in the local automotive industry by demonstrating its commitment via its extensive participation in KLIMS 2006! |
