In 1989, Mercedes-Benz started to hold a series of golf tournaments for the Mercedes Challenge Cup. These golf tournaments were for amateurs at a national level and organised in cooperation with the German Golfing Association (DGV). In 1991, the form and the name were altered and the first MercedesTrophy for customers and friends of the brand took place and since then, it has been organised at the company headquarters. Meanwhile, these series of tournaments have established itself as an event, which is played on all continents.
