Kuala Lumpur, 8 September 2010 - The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate combines high practicality with elegant design and lifestyle attributes . The Estate takes the trademark strengths of the Saloon, such as safety, agility and comfort, and combines them with a significant increase in spaciousness and versatility.

The concept of an estate has always been loosely based on a passenger vehicle with its roofline modified to follow the rear cargo area and occasionally with an extra row of rear-facing seats, ending with a near vertical door on its rear.



These vehicles were originally conceptualized to meet the usage requirements of large families, tradesmen and sometimes; civil service authorities. In line with its utilitarian appearance, estates back then are rarely associated with luxury, performance and driving excitement.



More significantly amongst Mercedes-Benz modern estates, the purpose of it, historically are vehicles for the well-off customers giving space to carry equipment for recreational activities such as hunting and horse riding.

With this, Mercedes-Benz also takes the idea of performance estate to a higher level with the C63 AMG Estate. Its class leading versatility and performance has even made it a permanent feature of each Formula 1 race as the official F1TM Medical Car. This is because a medical car must guarantee the fastest possibility emergency coverage in event of an accident during the race.

The new C 300 Avantgarde Estate is specially brought in by Mercedes-Benz Malaysia to showcase the overall concept of Mercedes-Benz performance-luxury estates.


The C 300 Avantgarde line does not only looks sporty but with great performance too. The dynamic handling package bestows upon the C 300 Estate with a degree of agility worthy of out-and-out sports cars. The driver is able to choose from two drive modes which determine the suspension characteristics : Comfort and Sport. With these 2 modes, the shock absorbers are regulated by means of a variable electronic control. Additionally, the body is lowered by 15 mm and equipped with shorter springs and thicker torsion bars. The dynamic handling package also encompasses a speed-sensitive power steering with a more direct ratio and variable centering.


The 3.0L power plant produces 170 kW (231 hp) powers the C 300 Avantgarde from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic operates on a direct multiple downshift principle. This means that, when changing down quickly, the individual gears do not necessarily have to be selected in sequence. Instead, individual gear ratios can be skipped if required. Manual gear shifting is possible via the gear shift paddles.


The 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels with mixed tyres adds to the touch to the sporty performance of the C 300 Avantgarde. More grip especially cornering at high speeds.

The C 300 Avantgarde estate is the first model in its class to offer the individually adjustable THERMOTRONIC luxurious 3-zone automatic climate control. The 3 zones are namely front (left and right) and rear, allowing occupants to choose temperature settings and air distribution individually.



The COMAND APS with a 7-inch colour display, has a 16-GB hard disc for storing navigation data. The COMAND APS also comprises a DVD changer along with a 4-GB MUSIC REGISTER for storing up 1000 tracks. If this is insufficient, the media interface provides input for portable audio devices such as iPod, USB and memory sticks.


The sound output is by a 12 -speaker 450 watts harmon-kardon sound system, the harmon-kardon sound system virtually transforms the C 300 Avantgarde into a mobile theatre.


Operating safety is provided by the voice-control system, LINGUATRONIC, now able to recognize whole-word-commands when entering a destination, selecting a radio station or calling up a name from the telephone directory. The driver no longer needs to spell out the names of countries, towns or roads but is able to speak them as whole words instead. Other convenient systems as standard are the memory seats for both front seats, universal mobile phone preparation and KEYLESS-GO.


The panoramic glass sunroof is about 1/3 larger than the conventional sliding sunroof gives the interior a particularly light and cheerful feel. If the sun gets a bit intense, the overhead sunblinds provide optimal protection.

With 1/ 2/3 seats folded, and loaded up to roof, the load compartment could accommodate four golf bags and still ample space accommodate other necessities. This is due to its amazing load capacity of 1500 litres, an increase of 146 litres measured against the previous Estate model.


When all seats are occupied, the load compartment has 485 litres, enough room for packing the necessary items for the entire family.
The EASY-PACK tailgate opens and closes at the push of a button, representing a first in this segment.

The C-Class estate has come through an exhaustive programme of testing, during which it demonstrated its typical Mercedes-like levels of safety over 100 crash tests in all. The occupant protection is underpinned by an intelligently designed body shell, 70 percent of which consists of high-strength and ultra-high strength grades of steel. The occupants are protected by a total of 8 airbags. The driver, front passenger and the passengers on the outer rear seats also benefit from belt tensioners and belt force limiters. The NECK-PRO head restraints protect the driver and front passenger against the risk of whiplash.


The anticipatory occupant protection system PRE-SAFE gives the C 300 Avantgarde the edge over its competitors. This system makes use of the time before an imminent accident and its occupants for a collision.


Driving by night has never been safer with Intelligent Light System, with its five different lighting system, namely country, motorway, enhanced fog lamps, Active Light and cornering light modes. All these modes are automatically adjusted to that particular driving situation.
