The E-Class with its new-generation 4-cylinder engines is particularly efficient. The development theme – higher performance and lower consumption – has been continued undeterred and, thanks to the BlueEFFICIENCY concept, it has been possible to reduce fuel consumption by more than 20 per cent compared with the previous models.

With the exhaust-gas turbocharger, it was possible to increase the efficiency of the 4-cylinder petrol engines considerably. As a result, the optimised 1.8 litre Otto-cycle engines with direct petrol injection and variable valve timing burn fuel particularly efficiently and, thanks to factors including homogeneous direct injection and increased compression, boast a higher output potential than the previous models. They already today comply with the increasingly stringent EU 5 limit levels in terms of consumption and emissions, in spite of which they continue to produce peak torque, power output, low noise levels and, thanks to two balancer shafts, smooth operation. The E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY for instance, delivers 135 kW (184 hp) and develops a maximum torque of 270 Nm, while the E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY has a rated output of 150 kW (204 hp) and a maximum torque of 310 Nm.

Concentrated power is packed into the 6-cylinder engine of the E 300. The engine deliver a powerful 170 kW (231hp) at a maximum torque of 300 Nm. The E 300 accelerates within 7.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
