Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Launches MercedesTrophy 2008
MercedesTrophy 2008 has begun, with a new twist this year – it is going nationwide with extended qualifying rounds. To kickstart this new season, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia launched its 18th annual golf competition at Saujana Golf & Country Club, on 27 March 2008.

For over 20 years, Mercedes-Benz has been holding a series of customer-invitation-only MercedesTrophy tournaments for men and women, which is currently enjoyed by over 50,000 players in 50 countries. With a renowned international golf tournament reputation, MercedesTrophy is once again here to transform a pure sporting extravaganza into a ‘lifestyle brand experience’.

“The participants of this tournament comprised distinguished achievers from all walks of life and a lot of them find this event a great way to meet and interact with other Mercedes-Benz owners. The qualifiers alone are a highlight in the tournament calendar for amateurs and every participant’s goal remains to reach the MercedesTrophy World Final, which is only possible on successful completion of the regional and national finals,” said Peter Honegg, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.
Unlike previous years, there will be a total of five qualifying rounds this year, which will take place at various beautiful locations such as Sabah, Penang, Johor, and Selangor. For the first time since its commencement, the MercedesTrophy 2008 golf competition will begin its first qualifying round at the lush green of the Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai, Sabah on 8 May 2008. Competition schedule and venue as shown below :-

Dates : 29 May

Qualifying Round 5
Venue : Pulai Springs Resort, Johor
Dates : 5 June

Country Final
Venue : Saujana Golf & Country Club, Subang
Dates : 25 June
There will only be ONE round of selection for Women Category, which is at the Malaysian Finals on 25 June 2008. The winner will qualify for the Asian Finals.

The top two winners in each handicap categories for Men’s Categories and the winner of the Women’s Category at the Malaysian Selection will qualify for the Asian Finals, with an all expenses paid trip to Sanctuary Cove, Australia from 30 July to 1 August 2008. The winner of each handicap category at the Asian Finals will qualify for the World Finals in Stuttgart, Germany from 25 – 30 September 2008.

The four categories of competitors are :-

Men : Category A - Handicap 0 - 1 2
Category B - Handicap 13 – 20
Category C - Handicap 21 – 24

Women : Category D - Handicap 0 - 36

“Another good news on the global front is that we have become a major stakeholder in professional golf in the region. For the next three years, we will be the tour‘s Title Sponsor to the ASEAN Golf Tour in six Mercedes-Benz’s key markets namely Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam,” added Honegg.
Supporting the MercedesTrophy 2008 is their lifestyle partners such as Taylormade, TAG Heuer, Adidas Personal Care, Heineken, Evian, Crest Link, Pen Drive and Golf Digest, who will also be giving away prizes to the participants.

As per tradition, one of the highlights of the tournament is the grand prize for the hole-in-one for all par 3 holes – a Mercedes-Benz E200K worth RM353,888.00.

To enter the competition, Mercedes-Benz owners will have to submit an entry form and pay an entrance fee of RM350 per person to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. before 22 April 2008.
